Canada's support for Cohere underscores the need for clear AI policy

The Neuron notes that Canada has backed Cohere, though details are scarce. Even a short acknowledgment signals that federal support for home‑grown AI models is taking shape.

For firms like ours, operating under Ontario law, such governmental backing offers both opportunity and responsibility. Clear policy frameworks help us maintain our core principle of pricing services above cost and never charging for growth that runs at a loss.

Transparency is vital. When public funds support a model, customers expect that any data used to train that model is handled with explicit consent. Our operating model already enforces strict consent requirements, and we see this as the standard future Canadian AI firms should adopt.

The takeaway for the industry is simple: government endorsement must be matched with rigorous compliance and clear communication to keep trust intact. — Edgar Melo Costa, founder
